This March, we’re celebrating something very special: Gilect Play’s second anniversary! In this post, we’ll discuss what’s new for the site. We’ll also cover what we worked on over the past year, and provide previews of upcoming features.

What is Gilect Play?

Gilect Play is our completely free gaming portal, launched March 5th, 2023. Since its inception, plans have been made to integrate it into our free web hosting portal at Gilect.com.

We will continue to operate both services side-by-side, even though they are completely different. We have no plans to discontinue either of these. Rest assured, our focus on Gilect Play doesn’t mean that Gilect.com is abandoned!

What Changed This Year on Gilect Play?

Gilect Play has gone through several changes since its first anniversary in 2024. During this time, we revamped the search page. We slightly improved the homepage by adding video previews of games. We also added three fun new games.

This year, we’ve done quite a bit more! Last November, we completely overhauled our home page by taking inspiration from streaming services such as Netflix.

The focus of this redesign was to make finding new games in specific categories much more straightforward. Here’s a screenshot of how our home page looks as of March 2025:

Other than our design revamp, we’re excited to finally unveil two new highly-requested features: a new account/members area, and a revamp of our mobile page.

Create a Free Account

You might have noticed that there’s a new red button when playing a game. This is the “favorite” button, which allows you to heart games that you love!

This feature is different from the thumbs-up / thumbs-down buttons. Liking a game contributes to a public vote. This vote allows users to see the community approval rating for that specific game.

Conversely, adding a game to favorites does not add to a public count. Instead, the games you favorite are visible only to you. You can quickly access all your favorites through our new members area.

Creating an account is completely free and only takes one minute. All that’s required is an email and a password, and a unique username created by you!

What Else Can I Access With My Account?

Other than having a convenient way to access your favorite games, creating an account has several other benefits.

One of which is being able to keep track of your total playtime across all games. You can compare your playtime with your friends to see who is the better gamer!

You can also select an avatar based on the many games available on Gilect Play. Currently, custom profile pictures are unsupported (although this may come in a later update).

Soon, we plan to launch public leaderboards and other cool features to make playing games feel even more competitive!

Mobile Overhaul

We redesigned our desktop site in November, and we felt it was necessary to give our mobile site some love as well! Before, the mobile website was an unorganized grid of games.

Now, we’re happy to bring the desktop browsing experience over to mobile! Scroll through your favorite categories of games to find something new to play!

All mobile games are now available in full-screen instead of a small window. Furthermore, we brought our recommendation algorithm over to mobile! This makes it much easier to find new games you’re likely to enjoy.

What Were Working On

We still have lots planned for Gilect Play and Gilect.com. Here are some of the features on our roadmap:

• Daily streaks – log in and play a game every day to build your streak
• Public leaderboards – compete with others around the globe to see who has the most playtime or streak count
• Achievements, quests, and XP – more things to compete for!
• Integrating games into our web host at Gilect.com – this allows publishers to instantly add games to their site in one click
